Erst in unserer gestrigen POW!-Podcast-Ausgabe sprachen Andreas und ich über das jüngste Gerücht, dass die mittlerweile weltweit agierende Plattform für digitale Indie Comics, GlobalComix, möglicherweise alsbald eine große Ankündigung zu einem neuen Kooperationspartner bekanntgeben würde.
Nun ließen die Verantwortlichen noch vor dem Beginn der New York Comic Con in dieser Woche die Bombe platzen, dass ab sofort auch ein umfangreiches Portfolio an DC Comics Titeln über die Plattform lesbar und kaufbar ist. Zu Letzterem gleich mehr.
GlobalComix lässt sich als eine Art „Netflix für Comics“ verstehen. Bisher eine Go-To-Plattform, wenn es darum ging, digitale Publikationen von US-Verlagen wie Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, Dynamite, Dark Horse und auch vielen anderen Verlagen zu lesen. Für einen monatlichen Betrag von bis zu 10 US-Dollar - im Jahresabo günstiger - hat man Zugriff auf das gesamte Portfolio der Plattform - viele davon wochenaktuelle Veröffentlichungen - und somit auf mehr als über 65.000 Titel. Auch hier in Deutschland, gänzlich ohne VPN-Umweg.
Nun hat man mit demselben Abo auch Zugriff auf unzählige Titel des DC Verlages, wofür ein extra Reiter in der App installiert wurde. Bis heute war es ausschließlich möglich, digitale DC Comics Titel über Kindle (ehemals ComiXology) im Digitalen zu kaufen und zu lesen. Anders als bei Marvel Unlimited, ist das DC Pendant zum digitalen Flatrate-Lesen (DC Universe Infinite) aktuell nicht in Deutschland verfügbar.
Bisher über GlobalComix zugänglich gemacht wurden jedoch ausschließlich Trade-Titel, also Sammelband-Ausgaben. Zum heutigen Launch sind also keine Einzelheftveröffentlichungen der DC-Titel verfügbar. Ob dies so bleiben wird, muss sich zeigen. Interessant ist auch, dass GlobalComix die Aufnahme des DC-Portfolios bisher ohne Preissteigerung vorgenommen hat. Ein Umstand, der sicherlich nicht allzu lange so bleiben wird.
Bisher war es auch möglich, abseits des Flatrate-Abos alle Titel aller Verlage auf der Plattform als DRM-freie PDFs zu erwerben. Was bedeutet, dass man die Datei des Comics direkt kaufen, laden und auch besitzen und sie somit im Reader der Wahl lesen kann. Überraschenderweise gilt dies aktuell auch für die digitalen DC Comics Titel. Erstmals ermöglicht es der Verlag somit, digitale Versionen der Publikationen als DRM-freie Dateien an den Endkunden zu vertreiben. Dies war selbst zu ComiXology-Zeiten nicht möglich.
Zu beachten ist, dass der Kauf der Titel ausschließlich über den Browser auf der Plattform funktioniert. Da Google und Apple erhebliche Gebühren für Verkäufe über ihre Betriebssysteme abverlangen, umgeht die Plattform diese dadurch, dass sie explizit nicht in der App vertrieben werden, sondern lediglich über den Browser.
