Die digitale Comic Reader Plattform OMNIBUS wird eingestellt

Der Markt um digitale US-Comics ist hart umkämpft, nun muss sich die unabhängige Start-Up-Plattform Omnibus geschlagen geben und stellt den Dienst im kommenden Monat ein.

Omnibus entstand als alternative Plattform zu Amazons ComiXology Merger in die hauseigene Kindle App und bot Leser:innen eine Option, US-Indie-Comics abseits des globalen Marktriesens zu kaufen und zu lesen.

Nun endet die kurze Ära der App, wobei sie bereits aus den iOS und Android Marktplätzen entfernt wurde.

Als Grund gaben die Betreiber das zu geringe Wachstum bei den Nutzerzahlen an, da man so auf weiterführende externe Finanzierung angewiesen war, welche über lange Zeiträume einfach nicht tragbar sei.

Laut Medienberichten soll Omnibus angegeben haben, dass es den bisherigen Nutzer:innen, die mehr als 100,00 US-Dollar in der App ausgegeben haben, ermöglicht wird, eine Erstattung zu beziehen sowie Back-Ups der bisher gekauften Titel zu laden. Es soll noch bis zum 21. August 2024 möglich sein auf seine Titel in der App zuzugreifen.

What happened? We aren’t growing fast enough and would require a significant amount of external funding to proceed and become sustainable. This is a tough business to achieve that within the current landscape.

You’ll be able to read in-app and download your backups until August 21. We’ll send everyone a few reminders via email.
