DC/Warner bestellt DOOM PATROL TV-Serie für DC Universe Streaming-Dienst
Gut zwei Wochen nachdem DC/Warner ihr neues Streming-Projekt „DC Universe“ ankündigten, legt man nach und bestellt für eben jene Plattform ein neues TV-Format: „Doom Patrol“
Die Serie soll aus den Entwicklungen der „Titans“ Serie entstehen, in der die Doom Patrol Teil der fünften Episode sein sollen. Daraufhin wird das Team folglich das hiermit angekündigte eigene Format erhalten. Die Außenseiterhelden der Doom Patrol finden ihren Ursprung bereits 1963, in der Schöpfung durch Arnold Drake, Bob Haney und Bruno Premiani.
DC/Warner gibt folgende Synopsis zum neuen Serienformat:
Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.
Verantwortlich für die Entwicklung sei Berlanti Productions, welche eng mit Warner Bros. Television zusammenarbeiten sollen. Angelegt sei die Staffel aktuell auf 13 Episoden (man lernt wohl von Marvel / Netflix?). Geschrieben wird das Format von Jeremy Carver (u.a. „Supernatural“), welcher neben Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns (!!) und Sarah Schechter auch als Executive Producer auftreten wird. Drehstart soll in der zweiten Jahreshälfte sein. Ein Release der Serie peilt man wohl bereits für 2019 an.
